Read Your Yard's Water

Before you pay anyone to trench: walk your yard in a hard rain. Mark where water flows and pools, find the high and low ground, check your downspouts. Half the time the fix is a regrade or a swale — not a French drain. 💧

  1. Walk the yard during and right after a hard rain.
  2. Mark where water flows — and where it pools and sits.
  3. Note the high ground and the low ground.
  4. Check your downspouts — where are they dumping?
  5. Design with the water, not against it.
