About

Why this source matters.

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is the most important native plant research institution in the South. The free Native Plant Database is the reference every serious ecological designer uses — searchable by sun, water, soil, bloom, wildlife value, and host plant for specific pollinators. Their public gardens demonstrate what's possible. Their twice-yearly plant sales are the largest native sales in Texas.

Reading by Noon

Plant database is the single resource every Noon Plan references. We use it more than any other native source.

How to use them

The Plant Database is the single best free resource for selecting Texas natives. The advanced search lets you constrain by USDA zone, light, water needs, height, and even by what pollinator species the plant hosts. The Wildflower Center's spring and fall plant sales sell out within hours — get on the email list and arrive at member preview night. They also offer landscape consultation services through their Ecosystem Design Group.
