Tree care that treats trees as infrastructure.

Oak wilt prevention. Deep root watering. Native tree planting. Organic pruning. San Antonio, Boerne, Bulverde, Helotes.

Oak wilt prevention · deep watering · native planting Hill Country canopy specialists

Shade is infrastructure, not decoration. A 60-year-old live oak in your front yard is worth more than the house — in cooling, in habitat, in property value.

Hill Country trees take decades to grow and minutes to lose. Oak wilt has killed more live oaks in Texas in the last 30 years than every other cause combined. Most of the deaths were preventable.

Noon's tree care is built around the idea that your trees are 50-year assets and should be treated accordingly. We assess. We deep-water. We prune at the right time of year (no oak wilt vector). We plant natives that will outlive you. We remove only when there's no other option.

§ 1 · How we work

Read the canopy first.

Most tree problems are root problems. We start with what's happening underground.

Removal is the last resort, not the first. We've talked clients out of removing trees other arborists wanted to take down. Sometimes the answer is a soil program and three years of patient root recovery. That tree is still alive today.

§ 2 · What's included

What we actually do.

Included
Tree health assessment
Species ID, age, structural soundness, oak wilt scouting, soil + drainage check. Photo + written report.
Included
Deep root watering setup
Soaker hose or gator bag spec'd to trunk diameter. Schedule + supplies handed off.
Included
Organic pruning
Right time of year for the species. Sterilized tools between cuts. Wound treatment when required (oaks).
Included
Native tree planting
Live oak, cedar elm, Mexican sycamore, Mexican white oak, bur oak, Texas red oak. Sized to fit the lot's 50-year arc.
Included
Oak wilt prevention
Wound sealing, propiconazole injection for high-value trees, root graft severance when justified.
Included
Removal (when necessary)
Insurance-certified, proper rigging, stump grinding optional. We try everything else first.
§ 3 · Pricing

Honest pricing.

Tree work prices by tree count, complexity, and access. Most properties start with an assessment + watering program, then add as needed.

Assessment + plan
$400-$800
Property-wide tree assessment + deep watering setup + 1-year care calendar
Single tree care
$300-$1,500
Pruning, oak wilt prevention, fertilization (organic) per tree — depending on size + access
Multi-tree / install
$1,500-$8,000+
Multi-tree care program, native tree planting (3-10 trees), or major preservation effort
§ 4 · Why this matters

Oak wilt is everywhere now.

Bexar, Comal, Kendall, and Bandera counties are all in active oak wilt zones. The disease moves through interconnected root systems below ground and through beetle vectors above. Most homeowners don't know they have it until 3-4 trees are dying.

Prevention is cheap and dramatic: don't prune oaks April through October, seal every fresh wound within 15 minutes, treat high-value trees prophylactically with propiconazole. Total cost: a few hundred dollars per tree. Cost of losing a mature live oak: $5,000-$15,000 to remove, plus 40 years of canopy lost.

Most tree services don't talk about this because they make more money on removals than on prevention. Noon doesn't.

§ 6 · FAQ

Common questions.

When should I prune oak trees in Texas?
November through January only. Oak wilt is spread by Nitidulid beetles that vector the fungus from infected trees to fresh wounds. The beetles are inactive in cold weather. April through October pruning of oaks is high-risk and should be avoided unless storm damage requires immediate action — in which case, seal the wound with shellac, latex paint, or pruning sealer within 15 minutes.
What is oak wilt and how do I prevent it?
Oak wilt is a fungal disease (Bretziella fagacearum) that kills oak trees by clogging their water-conducting vessels. It spreads two ways: above ground via Nitidulid beetles attracted to fresh wounds, and below ground via interconnected root systems. Prevention: only prune oaks Nov-Jan, seal wounds immediately, sever root grafts around infected trees, consider propiconazole injection for high-value trees in active zones.
How much water does a Hill Country live oak need?
During drought, a mature live oak needs approximately 40-60 gallons per inch of trunk diameter, applied deeply once per month. A 24-inch DBH live oak = 1,000-1,400 gallons per deep watering, ideally delivered via soaker hose around the drip line over 4-6 hours. Surface sprinkler watering does almost nothing for established trees — the water never reaches the deep roots.
What native trees should I plant in San Antonio?
Live oak (Quercus virginiana — the keystone), cedar elm (Ulmus crassifolia — fast, fall color), Mexican sycamore (Platanus mexicana — west-shade specialist), Mexican white oak (Quercus polymorpha — evergreen drought-deep), bur oak (Quercus macrocarpa — massive canopy), Texas red oak (Quercus buckleyi — brilliant fall). Avoid Bradford pears, mulberries, and ash.
Should I have a tree removed?
Almost never as a first response. Most trees we get called to remove can be saved with soil work, deep watering, structural pruning, and patience. We've talked dozens of clients out of removals other arborists wanted. If a tree is genuinely structurally dangerous or fully dead, we remove — but we try everything else first.
How much does tree care cost in San Antonio?
A property-wide assessment + deep watering program runs $400-$800. Single tree pruning or oak wilt prevention work is $300-$1,500 per tree. Multi-tree care or native planting (3-10 trees) ranges $1,500-$8,000+. Removals price separately by tree size, access, and proximity to structures.
